Hangin' in Genoa

Rebecca Dixon, one of the floozies, claims Phil Ritger's wallet after he is hanged during 'The Curse of the Hanging Tree.' Left, Phil Ritger laughs as his attorney, Jim Hales, tries to defend him in court during 'The Curse of the Hanging Tree' on Friday in Genoa. Attorneys for both sides resorted to offering money to the judge and jury. The Douglas County Historical Society's play is based on events of the lynching of Adam Uber from a tree on Genoa Lane in 1897 and is a major fundraiser for the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center and the Genoa Court House Museum.
