Dog days of summer bring activities to Antelope Valley

This Saturday at 7-9 p.m. will be a very enjoyable evening of wine tasting and exhibits of art by our local artists, with some of the art items available to purchase. The wine and art event will be at the Walker Community Center, at a cost of $25, which includes wine tasting, appetizers and a souvenir wine glass, as well as the art show. Admission will be limited to those 21 years and older, so please don't bring children. We'll look forward to seeing you there.

Volunteers do good job at county-wide disaster drill

The drill apparently went very well, simulating an earthquake somewhere in the county. At a post-drill assessment, our local volunteer fire department was complimented for their capability, and they were compared to a full-time fire department. That is great, after all the hard work and training they have done. Then, after the drill was over, they had to respond to a fire on the east side of the valley and did another good job. Nice work, guys and gals, on what was a very busy day.

School has started

Today was the first day of school to begin the new year. Please be very careful as you pass the schools in Coleville and observe the speed limit, as there will be a lot of kids around.

Coleville Library

Our library has been through a lot of inconvenience this summer, with all the work and updating going on at the schools. Olga Gilbert, our librarian, has let me know that their power is back on, and they will be having their regular hours of Monday through Thursday from 3-7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are hoping for their Internet service to be online again by Friday. They are very sorry for the inconvenience that has been incurred this summer, and they hope everyone is ready to come back and see all the new books they got over the summer.

Fundraiser for local's son successful

Ron Toews, the son of local resident Frances Rich, has been diagnosed and is suffering with hepatitis C and the need for a liver transplant. Last Saturday, many of his friends and organizations in Carson City held a very successful fundraiser for his present and future medical expenses. Frances would like to thank all of them for their help to Ron in his very big time of need. If anyone from our area would like to help, you can call Frances, or let me know.

Labor Day is upon us

Have a wonderful and safe long weekend, no matter what you are planning to do. It should be nice weather, so go fishing, camping, traveling, all of the above, or just enjoy staying home. Have a ball.
