Reward offered for information leading to Dachsund shooter

Ruhenstroth resident Jerrry Spivey has to tell his 8-year-old granddaughter that she isn't going to get to play with his dachshund, Millie, when she comes to visit.

"I have to tell her that Millie is in Heaven," he said.

That's because the 8-year-old dog was shot on Spivey's Buckskin Lane property sometime on the afternoon of Aug. 5. Spivey is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the shooter.

Spivey said the dog went out at about 1 p.m. that day, which was the last time he saw her alive.

"We looked for her all day and night," he said. "I thought a coyote had taken her."

He found Millie's body on Aug. 6 and Spivey buried her where she fell.

"The bullet killed her instantly," Spivey said. "I was a good thing she didn't suffer."

Spivey filed a police report when he found out the dog was shot.

He said the entire family will miss Millie. He remembers the date of her birth, Dec. 31, 1999.

"She loved kids," he said. "I have six grandkids and they all loved to play with her. She was a great dog."
