"Curse of the Hanging Tree' tickets on sale

The darkest day in the history of Genoa was the lynching of Adam Uber from a tree on Genoa Lane in 1897.

A cry went up from all over the country that lawlessness was rampant in Nevada. The governor of Nevada even offered a $500 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who lynched one Adam Uber at Genoa, Douglas County.

Although a grand jury failed to indict a single person and those involved went unpunished by the law, they didn't escape the curse.

Legend claims that the curse of the hanging tree to this day haunts the descendants of those who took part in the horrific lynching of Uber.

To learn more about the curse of the hanging tree and the events that lead up to the lynching, attend the Douglas County Historical Society's performances of "The Curse of the Hanging Tree" on Aug. 22 and 23.

Tickets are $15 per person and are available at the Genoa Court House Museum and the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. Advanced tickets are recommended as performances are limited to 55 seats.
