Bureau of Land Management firefighters will be conducting a controlled burn on federal land along Poor Boy Road starting today. The burn is on 31 acres a mile southeast of Markleeville. According to the feds, smoke will be noticeable from Markleeville and State Route 89 during ignition.

We're creeping up on the beginning of the filing period for the August and November elections. Those seeking one of Douglas County's many elected offices must sign up between May 5 and May 16. That starts two weeks from now. The scoreboard on registered voters is 16,224 registered Republicans, 8,872 registered Democrats and 5,824 independents or members of other parties.

It should be nice, but cool today with sunny skies and a high temperature hitting 60. There's not a drop of those famous showers in the forecast for the rest of April, so I don't know what the May flowers are going to do. Expect the temperatures to climb to nearly 80 by Sunday.
