A high wind warning kicks off at 11 a.m. today as a strong low pressure system moves through the Pacific Northwest hauling a cold front. Southwest winds are expected to blow 25-40 mph through 7 p.m. today. Wind prone areas, like Genoa and the foothills, could see gusts of up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts of up to 100 mph are expected over the ridge tops. Motorists heading east should be careful of blowing dust, which will reduce visibility.

The high today will be 68, but the low will drop below freezing over the next few days. Hope you didn't plant anything over the weekend. This will be the pattern for a while, with the weather service even calling out a slight chance of snow showers over the weekend.

Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira's step-son may not be going to trial on April 22. Robert Hernandez, 21, pleaded not guilty to eluding a peace officer causing bodily harm after leading Washoe Tribal Police on a chase from Stewart into Indian Hills and then bailing out of the car early last year. Hernandez is up for a change of plea in Judge Michael Gibbons' district courtroom this morning.

Construction has already begun on a mile Centerville and Gilman starting at Highway 395. Expect 20-minute delays through Thursday while they pave the road.
