Baseball: Tigers roll against North Valleys

Bolstered by a seven-run first inning, the Douglas baseball team rebounded from a tough Tuesday loss to McQueen by beating up on North Valleys in Reno Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers collected 12 hits and got six strong innings out of pitcher Michael Whalin on their way to a 12-4 win to improve to 8-2 in Sierra League play and 13-6 overall on the year.

Douglas scratched out a run in the second but the Panthers crept back into the game with four runs over the next four innings to close the score to 8-4.

The Tigers put it away with a four-run seventh, however.

Whalin, a sophomore, struck out one and scattered six hits in six innings while walking two.

Jordan Hadlock went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, Tim Rudnick doubled and had an RBI and Zach McFadden collected two hits of his own.

Tanner Thomas, Jeff Crozier, Tyler Hoelzen, Troy Torres and Beau Davis each drove in a run as well.
