Genoa Lakes Golf Course sells

A deal has been struck for the sale of Genoa Lakes Golf Course and Resort.

Golf course owner Mario Antoci confirmed that the resort had been sold.

"I can't talk about specifics of the deal," said Antoci. "We're in escrow and set to close June 2."

Antoci said he'd sent letters to club members informing them of the sale, though details were limited.

"I am very pleased," Antoci said. "I want to keep it (the resort) as nice as we've kept it, and I think we found the right people to do that."

Antoci is the president, treasurer and secretary of MDA Enterprises, which owns both Genoa Lakes Golf Course and the former Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch, which was renamed.

Genoa Lakes is on the site of Sierra Creek Ranch, north of Nevada's oldest settlement. The 220-home development and golf course was approved in 1992.

The northern course, located on the former Harvey's Ranch, was first approved in 1995.

Antoci's company purchased the southern golf course in November 2000, according to the Douglas County Recorder's Web site. He was the former chairman and chief executive officer of American Savings Bank.

The company acquired the northern course on March 31, 2005. A week later, Douglas County approved reconfiguration of the northern course. The 19,000-square-foot club house was remodeled.

Genoa Lakes Golf Course was designed by Peter Jacobson and John Harbottle and the newly named Genoa Lakes Golf Resort was designed by Johnny Miller and Harbottle.

The company owns 564 acres between the two courses, according to the Douglas County Assessor's Web site.
