Nevada Day juried art show open to local artists

The Nevada Artists Association presents its annual Nevada Day Show Oct. 15 through Nov. 30 at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery located at King and Division Streets in Carson City. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The juried show is open to all Nevada artists as well as NAA members. New members are welcome and encouraged to sign up on show entry day, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entries are limited to three pieces, or four, if one of the pieces is a miniature. Fees are $20 for the first entry and $10 for each subsequent entry, including miniatures, for non-members. Fees for members are $10 for the first entry and $5 for each subsequent entry, including miniatures.

Acceptance into this show is at the discretion of the jury committee. Entry fees will be refunded for entries not selected during the jury process.

Artwork must have been completed within the last 24 months and not previously shown in any NAA judged show. Work must be original. No copies of published photographs including historical figures and photographs considered public domain will be accepted, neither will work done in a classroom setting. Paintings must be dry. All hanging works must be framed and ready to hang with appropriate wiring. The center or hanging point of wire must be no less than 1 1/2 inches below top edge of frame. Framed artwork must be no larger than 40 inches in any one direction including the frame. Image size for miniatures is 35 square inches or less. Prints must be hand-pulled with the exception of digital art and photography.

Kit Knight, art teacher at Lake Tahoe Community College and former owner of Master Framing in South Lake Tahoe, will judge 10 categories with ribbons and money awards going to the Best of Show, first, second and third-place winners in oil, acrylic, water color, pastel, photography, miniatures, graphics, sculpture, mixed media and other. A Nevada Spirit ribbon will be awarded by the show committee. There must be at least five entries in a category to qualify for awards, otherwise those entries will be grouped into "Other."

An artists' reception will be held and refreshments served from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 27. For information, Dorrine Sadilek, 885-7072 or Sabina Bye, 267-9167.
