The R-C Morning Report

The search for famed aviator Steve Fossett enters its eighth day as aircraft take off from Minden-Tahoe Airport in a few hours. It has been a decade since the Nevada Wing of the Civil Air Patrol has engaged in a search this long. That search, in October and November of 1997 for a floatplane containing four people, took 10 days and cost the lives of two searchers.

Today is the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Gov. Jim Gibbons has ordered flags at half-staff and for Nevadans to observe a moment of silence at 5:46 a.m.

Today will be sunny with a high temperature of 87 degrees. Wednesday should be similar. The Weather Service is backing off a bit on its earlier prediction of thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday, decreasing the chances to 10 percent from the earlier 20. It's 44 degrees in Genoa before sunrise.
