The R-C Morning Report

As the search for famed aviator Steve Fossett enters its third day today, officials are hopeful that his survival skills helped him survive whatever may have happened to him as he flew through Nevada and Eastern California on Labor Day. While the search is focusing on 60,000 square miles of territory between Yerington and Bishop, there is the possibility he turned east, deeper into Nevada. The Citabria has a 400-mile range, depending on fuel consumption, and could have made it almost anywhere in Nevada.

Douglas County commissioners will discuss the fate of bonds that were supposed to be used to build a garage in Minden. Increased cost of construction may force the county shelve the project in favor of something else rather than turn the bonds back in. Also on the agenda is the discussion of a plan to award a contract to construct a wastewater reservoir at the North Valley Treatment plant. Commissioners meet 1 p.m. in their chambers at the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St.

It's going to be cooler today and sunny with a predicted high temperature of 81 degrees and a low of 49. The winds are expected to remain light at about 5 mph.
