Man suspected of growing pot

A 56-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Wednesday after Douglas County officers discovered an indoor marijuana growing operation with a pot harvest valued at more than $100,000.

John Charles Morrissey Sr., was arrested by the sheriff's office Street Enforcement Team at his home in the 1300 block of Guinness Way in Chichester Estates.

He was being held in Douglas County Jail on $10,500 bail charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Mezzetta said Morrissey first came to the attention of law enforcement in January when it was alleged that he was involved in the sales of a controlled substance.

While executing a search warrant Wednesday, officers discovered a sophisticated indoor hydroponics marijuana growing operation at his residence.

Seized from the home were 98 marijuana plants, nearly one pound of harvested marijuana, nine firearms, scales, paraphernalia and other items related to the sale of marijuana.
