Stodiecks recovering after Southern California wreck

Staff Reports

Minden residents Fred and Betty Stodieck are recovering from an Oct. 13 vehicle accident that killed another driver.

The couple were northbound on Highway 395 north of Victorville towing a trailer with their pickup when a 22-year-old California man in the opposite lane tried to pass on the hilly two-lane road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the other vehicle crossed the double yellow line and when he saw the Stodiecks tried to avoid them by going into the east shoulder.

The 1994 Mitsubishi he was driving started to rotate back into the Stodiecks' lane and collided with their pickup.

The Stodiecks told paramedics they were injured and and they were taken by helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in San Bernardino.

Joseph Epperson of Riverside was killed in the accident.

A third driver, who Epperson was passing, was uninjured.

The couple is back at home after the accident and is healing from their injuries. Fred Stodieck said the pickup was destroyed in the accident.
