Bank offers savings banks for new depositors

Staff Reports

For three months Carson River Community Bank is offering a specially designed savings bank to depositors opening one or more new accounts and meeting the minimum deposit requirement. Actual postal box doors from U.S. post offices in Nevada were used in the construction of the banks.

"We want to encourage everyone to start saving, or build on their savings," said Dan Dykes, president/CEO of Carson River Community Bank in north Douglas County.

He noted the personal savings rate in the U.S. continues to trend downward, declining from about 7 percent in 1960 to 1/10th of that (.7 percent) in August 2007.

The personal savings rate is the percentage of disposable personal income Ð the amount of money available to put in the bank or to invest.
