County OKs bear ordinance

Douglas County took the first step toward expanding an ordinance requiring bear proof containers outside the Tahoe Basin on Thursday.

Commissioners voted 4-0 for the ordinance, which would require someone who had two documented trash raids by bears in two years to purchase a bear-proof trash container.

The ordinance had been in place at Lake Tahoe for years.
