Moses wanted a little bit more from God

Moses was a man like no other of his time and I dare to say no one since. The Bible says that he spoke with God as we speak to one another. Yet Moses still wanted to know God better.

Exodus 33:18 Moses said, "Now show me your glory."

For Moses it wasn't enough to be able to speak with God in personal ways or that he had the greatest understanding of God. Moses wanted more. I really like his attitude - he knew God and his relationship with God was incredible, yet Moses was not satisfied.

If you have read that account, you know that God speaks and tells Moses that no human can see him in his glory and live. Still, God is pleased with Moses request and tells him he will put Moses in a safe place. So, God places Moses in a cleft of a rock, a place of safety where he can have the only possible view of the Lord. As the Lord passes by, the words he speaks resonate throughout the Bible.

Exodus 34:6-7 "The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin..."

God continues to speak of his justice and holding people accountable, still as Moses hears these words, he is overwhelmed. There is no complaining that God did not grant his request, rather Moses is satisfied and he does the only thing that any one would do when they have an encounter with God.

Exodus 34:8 "Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped."

When Jesus Christ walked on this earth, he declared himself to be the very image of God. The Bible says he is "in very nature" God. When Philip, one of Jesus' apostles, wanted to see the Father, Jesus simply said:

John 14:9 "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father..."

Are you hungry to know God? Are you like Moses in a place where you want more of the Lord?

Look to Jesus Christ, and you will see God in very nature. I believe that, like Moses, you will be satisfied with what you see and hear. Christians, believe Jesus Christ is that rock where the Lord hid Moses, he is the safe place where the Father is manifest.

Hebrews 1:3 "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

Jesus is the exact representation of God's glory, the very glory Moses wanted to see. Do you desire to know God? Consider Jesus, look to him, and you will find the only one who provided for sin, then rested from his work.
