Artists, get ready for the big show



Nevada and California artists are invited to enter their best work in the Carson Valley Artists Association Scholarship Benefit Show, Nov. 2-4 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Proceeds from this show provide scholarships for Douglas and Whittell high school students continuing in art education.


Oil, acrylic, water media, photography, mixed media and pastel are the media categories judged. Prizes up to $100 and ribbons will be awarded.


Show times are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturday, Nov. 3, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4.


An artists' reception is 6-8 p.m. Nov. 2. Refreshments will be served. Winners need not be present to win a door prize.


A raffle drawing for prizes donated by local businesses is 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. Proceeds benefit the CVAA Scholarship Fund.


Entries are accepted at the CVIC Hall, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 1, with nothing accepted after 4 p.m. Members pay $6 per entry; nonmembers, $9; high school students, $5, for up to three submissions. Fees are nonrefundable. No membership fees accepted at receiving.


No size limit. All work must be original and for sale. No crafts or jewelry. Paintings must be dry. All hanging works must be framed and wired to hang. No sawtooth hangers or uniframes. No early pickup of artwork.


Checks should be made to CVAA which reimburses the artists less a 15 percent donation for the scholarship fund.
