Cross Country: Biaggi takes 7th at Stanford Invite

Douglas junior Taylor Biaggi made a big statement Saturday at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto.

Biaggi took seventh out of 295 runners with a time of 19:28 to lead the Tiger girls' cross country team at the eighth largest meet in the country.

"What can I say about her race?" Douglas coach Keith Cole said. "It was awesome.

"She started out fast and came past us at the 1K mark in sixth place. She then ran a real steady and consistent race. She has really stepped it up this season and I think has solidly confirmed her standing as one of Nevada's top female runners."

Sarah Allen ran a 21:54, Amanda Boyd ran 22:16, Cassie Hood finished in 22:19, Anna Chiapella finished in 22:38, Michelle Lampson had a time of 24:02 and Amber Emerson rounded out the Tigers' day with a 24:36.

Cole said the Tiger boys' team turned in a solid group performance with the bulk of the team finishing less than 30 seconds apart.

"They are starting to really focus on packing together and that is great to see at this point in the season," Cole said. "It was an overall solid performance for the team. We took a bunch of rookies down and they really ran great."

Derrick Jenkins led the group with a time of 17:43. Corey Trujillo ran an 18:05, Eddie Koller ran an 18:06, Brad Boyd ran an 18:13 and James Leonard ran an 18.26.

Troy Shields finished in 19:31 and Pat Thielen finished in 19:47.

"The next few weeks are going to be critical for us," Cole said. "We need to beat all of these (the final three team races) to have a shot at sending teams to the Regional Championships at the end of the month.

"Both the boys' and girls' teams are working really hard to make this happen."

Douglas races at Wooster today.
