New BBQ restaurant in Gardnerville

Joe's BBQ House & Saloon has recently opened next to Rite Aid in Gardnerville, boasting an indoor open-pit barbecue.

"I've had all the fire marshals come in and check it out and everything's ready to go," said the restaurant's namesake owner Joe Cirone.

Cirone has lived in the Valley for 20 years, but became serious about barbecuing 30 years ago in Santa Maria, Calif.

"I started out doing backyard barbecues for my community block," he said. "During the Autumn Hills fire of 1996, I did my first benefit barbecue outside of Smith's in Gardnerville. I made the comment that I'd like to have my own restaurant someday, and now I do."

Cirone said the restaurant offers all kinds of barbecue-able food, like chicken, ribs, top sirloin and tri-tip for sandwiches.

"One of my favorite dishes is a new tri-tip sandwich with pepper-jack cheese, sautéed mushrooms and onions," he said. "We have a full bar, too."

Joe's BBQ House & Saloon is located at 1329 Highway 395, Ste. 2, and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information call 782-2271.
