Douglas Disposal sponsors food drive

Douglas Disposal employees are gearing up for their 13th annual holiday food drive for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. Last year Douglas Disposal employees collected a total of 9,260 pounds of canned goods for the food closet.

This is the time of year to think about helping others by contributing canned goods and nonperishable items. A bag of groceries can bring joy to families and individuals who are in need.

Flyers will be distributed to customers Dec. 3-7 with pick-up on regular trash days the following week, Dec. 10-14.

Place bagged food items beside refuse containers on regular pick-up days. Plastic bags are preferred to protect against rain and moisture. Attach flyers to bags to identify them for donation. Douglas Disposal employees will collect the bags early that day. Please do not donate frozen food items.

Donations of canned goods or nonperishable food items may also be delivered directly to Douglas Disposal, 1653 Lucerne St., Suite A in Minden Village.

The collected food will be weighed and sorted at the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. The food closet is open Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 1-4 p.m. to receive food or cash donations. For information, contact Food Closet Director Eileen Boettiger, 782-3711.
