Jacks Valley resident elected math association official

Jacks Valley resident Dr. Michael Hardie, community college professor of mathematics at Western Nevada College, has been elected west vice president of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges. Hardie took office at the close of the 33rd annual association conference in Minneapolis earlier this month.

Founded in 1974, the association is dedicated to the improvement of teaching and learning of mathematics in the first two years of college with a vision of "Opening Doors Through Mathematics." The organization addresses the concerns of the 20,000 full-time and part-time mathematics faculty who teach in two-year colleges. In the U.S., the association has about 2,500 individual members and more than 100 institutional members.
