Museum lecture attracts 100

Thank you to everyone who came out for Terri Geissinger's presentation on Lottie Johl and Bodie. Terri was excellent and the entire evening was a huge success with about 100 people in attendance. Thank you for such wonderful support.

Because of the holidays and all the events going on, there will be no lecture series in December. But we'll be right back at it in January. Look for more information here.

Meanwhile, the November photo contest will close on Friday, Nov. 30. Bring us your photos showing us what it is about Douglas County you love in November. You could bring us a photo of your table at Thanksgiving, laden with all the delicious food. Too bad we can't take a picture of the aroma of roasting turkey or baking pies.

The next big event will be Student Day, Saturday, Dec. 1. Santa Claus will be at the Carson Valley Museum in Gardnerville. Come see him, put in your wish list and have your photo taken. Have your kids' photos taken. Have a portrait of the entire family taken - Santa's a part of every family this time of year. Photographers will be there from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. to take your photos and print the pictures. Photos are $5 apiece.

While Santa takes up the front of the museum, in the main gallery, ladies will be decorating tables for the Mad Hatter Tea on the following afternoon. This has been one of the major events of the holiday season for several years now and there are still a few tables available. This is one of the major fundraisers for the Douglas County Historical Society and is also one of the most enjoyable. Tables are $100 each and you may decorate your own table or purchase one already decorated.

In addition to a lovely setting for an elegant tea, there will be a fashion show put on by Laura Springs Antiques. The models will be wearing Victorian, vintage and resale clothing. There will also be raffles, music and prizes for the best theme tables and hats as well as the most traditional. Call 782-2555 to arrange for your table soon. Dec. 2 will be here before we know it.

Anytime in the month of December you can visit the museum to vote for your favorite Christmas tree. There will be specially decorated trees throughout the museum vying for your votes. Beside each tree will be a donation can. Each vote only costs you 25 cents. Drop a quarter into a can to vote for that tree. The winning tree is the one that collects the most money. You can vote as often as you wish and as much as you wish. This is probably the only time voting more than once is legal. The winner will be announced in The Record-Courier at the end of December.

And while all this is going on, the historical society will also be sponsoring the December photo contest. What a great month to get out and take pictures of what December in Douglas County means to you. The possibilities are endless.
