Douglas is back in business after the long weekend and there's lots of things going on today. First up is District Judge Dave Gamble with a long calendar that's topped off with a motions hearing in the case of Karen Bodden, accused of killing her husband and dumping him in the desert. Bodden has been in jail since September 2006. A jury is scheduled to be selected on Nov. 29. The trial is scheduled to last three weeks.
The first in a series of public meetings on the business license tax will be at 10 a.m. in Minden at the CVIC Hall. There will be a second meeting at 5:30 p.m. The tax is predicted to make up a $600,000 to $700,000 shortfall in the county's general fund.
The Douglas County Planning Commission meets starting at 10 a.m. today at the Douglas County Administrative Building in Minden. They also have a long agenda which ranges from ordinances dealing with agriculture to requests from a cell phone company to build a 78-foot tall cell tower in Ruhenstroth.
School Board trustees are meeting today at Douglas High School starting 3:30 p.m. The big issue today looks like the continuing discussion of radon at the Lake Tahoe schools.
Too bad all these folks will be inside today, because the weather should be pretty nice. The high temperature is forecast to hit 66 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Right now it is 34 degrees in Genoa.
