Stralings celebrate golden anniversary

George and Patricia Straling were married Nov. 9, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colton, Calif. The maid of honor was Patricia's sister, Theresa Powell. George's best man was Carl Westby.

Shortly after their marriage, George enlisted in the Air Force and the couple moved to Peavine Mountain. George was stationed at Stead Air Force Base and conducted survival course trainings in the mountains above Reno and Lake Tahoe.

In 1962, the Stralings moved to Long Beach, Calif., with their three children, Elizabeth, Mary and Edward. Patricia was a homemaker for the family supporting the children at home, in school and with athletic endeavors. She was an enthusiastic cheerleader for the children and assisted in coaching teams for the park and recreation leagues. Patricia was a gifted athlete herself and continued to participate in community athletics for many years as her children grew up. George pursued a lifelong career with the Long Beach Fire Department. He worked in many locations in Long Beach from inner city to the college and marina. He retired having been in the position of fire captain for many years.

George and Patricia moved to Carson Valley in 1990. They enjoy the community and stay involved in maintaining the area through their local residential association. The couple also keeps in contact with other members of the survival training unit that George was involved in when stationed at Stead Air Force Base, as well as members of the Long Beach Firefighters Association.

The couple plans a special celebration with family and friends on Nov. 10.
