Knights donate to Austin's House

The Gardnerville Knights of Columbus presented a check for $1,000 to Pam Wise, director of the Carson Valley Children's Center on Nov. 1. The funds were raised for Austin's House during the Knights of Columbus Bingo Night on Aug. 24.

Austin's House provides services and care for up to 10 children between the ages of newborn and 17 who are referrals from Child Protective Services or who are in need of shelter.

Austin's House opened this summer and received their first children in September. The house was built entirely with donations from the community. With an annual operating budget of over $500,000, continued fundraising efforts are necessary to keep the doors open. For information or to make a donation, call 267-6711 or go to austinshouse.org.

Knights Bingo Nights provide funds to support community projects and public needs. The council donated more than $70,000 since its formation in 2001 with much of those funds raised since the start of Knights Bingo Nights in May 2004.

Knights Bingo Nights are on the second and fourth Fridays of each month at the St. Gall Pastoral Center, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, and are open to everyone over the age of 21. Doors open at 6 p.m. and play starts at 7 p.m. Players purchase a $20 game pack that includes a 3-card warm-up, 10 games, one raffle ticket, and one progressive blackout game card. Additional blackout game cards can be purchased separately. The progressive blackout pays a minimum of $500 if a bingo is reached within a specific number of calls. A big bonus progressive blackout has been added which pays $1,199. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Free popcorn, coffee and table snacks served by Knights. The next bingo night benefits Kids and Horses.
