Douglas senior Sean Molina, who was the Sierra League Defensive Player of the Year in football this season and the Northern 4A Regional Wrestling champion in the 189-pound weight class, has committed to play football at Yuba College next year.
Yuba is the three-time defending Bay Valley Conference champion. The 49ers also won the division champions for their third time since 2000 and won the Junior College Holiday Bowl.
Molina, a defensive tackle for the Tigers, had six sacks last season, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble and one defensive touchdown during football season. He compiled a 35-8 record on the year in wrestling with four pins and a fourth-place finish at state.
He joins a team that has only three returning defensive linemen and four returning linebackers heading into next year.
Yuba's schedule next year includes Monterey Peninsula College, West Valley, San Jose, Santa Rosa, De Anza, Marin, Solano, Mendocino, College of the Redwoods and Contra Costa College.
The 49ers went 6-5 overall on the year and 4-1 in conference play.
Skylar Mattison, 10, won the 400cc quad class at the Thunder Bowl Speedway in Moundhouse over the weekend.
Mattison, a Scarselli Elementary School student, has been racing for four years and has been riding quads since he was 2 years old.
A ladies-only golf clinic and dinner at the Carson Valley Golf Course is scheduled for Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. to commemorate Women in Golf Week which runs Saturday through June 9.
The clinic and dinner are free, but participants are encouraged to RSVP by calling Manya Brooks at 265-1743.
The objective of the week is to specifically address the needs, expectations and time constraints of women interested in learning or playing more golf.
As part of the week-long celebration, golf costs $10 per lady after 4 p.m. each night.
The fee includes a cart.
A ladies nine-hole event is scheduled for Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m. It costs $10 and includes a free drink.
The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club hosted a four-man team modified orange ball tournament Sunday at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
The team of John R. Miller, Bruce Sanford, John Dorman and Gary Paulsen took first with 116. Jeff Schreiber, Gary Schreiber, Charles Serafine and Jim Korzeniewski finished second with a 121.
Matthew Budjako, Jim Gaughan, Ken Smitreski and Clay took third with a 128, Ray Gardiol, Paul Lockwood, Melvin Sorem and Paul Jorgensen took fourth and Barry Horton, Jerry Maddox, Marty Lane and Joe Morrison took fifth.
