Economist claims growth generates $18,000 per house per year

An economist for the National Association of Home Builders told a small gathering of Realtors, builders and others in the construction industry that building 451 homes in Douglas County would generate $8 million in the first year.

Elliot Eisenberg told members of the Builders Association of Western Nevada that growth pays for itself through the generation of jobs, taxes, impact fees and other revenue sources.

He said wages generated by the new home owners are subsequently spent in the local economy producing more jobs.

Eisenberg spoke to the association on Wednesday evening and will speak again in Douglas County Thursday night.
