Michigan fiddlers to visit Valley

A new dimension is being added to this year's annual Fourth of July, Pops in the Park extravaganza. The Saline Fiddlers, an amazing group of high school musicians from Saline, Mich., will provide one of the preliminary attractions for the event. The fiddlers have been touring the country for the past 14 years and have more than 900 performances to their credit - including three at the White House and three more at Kennedy Center in New York City. This fine group of young musicians may be seen in action on their Web site, salinefiddlers.com

July 4 will be the culmination of their first trip to the Western U.S. and they are waving their customary fee of $2,500 in return for local hosting of the musicians and their chaperones. Sponsored by the Sierra Philharmonic League, they will also present a fiddle workshop during the afternoon of July 3. Upper level participants will be invited to play several selections with the fiddlers at the July 4 concert.

The workshop will be held from 3-5:30 p.m. in the Genoa Town Hall and is open to string players (violin, viola, cello, bass) with two or more years of experience on their instruments. The workshop is free, but since enrollment is limited, those interested should pre-register by phoning workshop coordinator, John O'Neill, 267-3495. While the workshop is geared to student musicians, adults will also be accepted if there is room.
