Democrats accept donations for troops

The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee, Douglas County Democratic Women and the Blue Lake Tahoe Democrats are sponsoring a float in the Carson Valley Days parade on June 9. The theme of this year's parade is "A Salute to the Troops." In keeping with the theme, the Democrats' float will honor those troops currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as paying tribute to our proud veterans.

To further honor our commitment to our soldiers serving abroad, we will be collecting items for "Operation Gratitude," a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to "put a smile on a service member's face, lift morale and express the appreciation of the American people for their sacrifices."

If you would like to help, please bring items such as: DVDs, CDs, candy, gum, cough drops, cookies, Bandana Cool-Ties, skin care products, coffee, greeting cards, batteries, energy drinks, sundries, etc., to the parade. They will be collected along the parade route by volunteers walking with the float.

If you can't make the parade, we will also be accepting donations at our booth in Lampe Park on June 9 and 10 or call Christie Aldinger at 267-3982 to arrange pick-up. Monetary donations to help pay for shipping are also needed.
