Battle in the Gymnasium set for June 23

The War Party Boxing Club, based out of the Dresserville Community in Gardnerville, will present the Battle in the Gymnasium series this summer in Yerington and Garderville.

The first card will take place at the Yerington High School gymnasium June 23 with the doors opening at noon and the first bout scheduled for 1 p.m.

Dresslerville Community Gymnasium will host the second card June 29 with the doors opening at 6 p.m. and the first bout set for 7 p.m.

The cards will be comprised of 10 bouts featuring some of the region's most talented amateur fighters.

Among the fighters featured will be Decee Simpson, who most recently wrestled for Douglas High School.

Simpson has 13 bouts under his belt already. He began boxing at the age of 15 in New Town, N.D.

"I can't wait to fight in Yerington and Dresslerville," he said. "I've been on hold for months and am anxious to get in the ring to show the locals what I'm capable of doing."

Other fighters include Tipton Hinkey (Wadsworth), Vinne Reymus (Carson City), Kenneth Austin (Schurz), Ashley Austin (Schurz), Vincent Austin (Schurz) and many other fighters from the Northern Nevada and California area.

The matchmaker for the events will be Vinnie Austin, head coach of the Walker River Boxing Club.

"We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to bring boxing back to Yerington and Gardnerville," said Quentin Blue Horse, who founded the War Party club earlier this year. "Our club is looking forward to putting on a great show for everyone. There will be a lot of action-packed fights.

"I also want to thank Let's Get It On Promotions and Dini's Lucky Club for sponsoring these events."

There will also be a prize drawing with two winning tickets drawn at each event.

Raffle tickets are $2 each and will be available until they are sold out. The prizes include four pairs of tickets to the Let's Get It On Promotions professional boxing card, "Heavy Hands," in Reno featuring Yerington's Contender Jesse Brinkley.

He'll be fighting an opponent to be named later in an outside arena at the Eldorado Hotel Casino in July 6.

The Reno card will also feature Maureen Shea (New York), Derek Hinkey (Reno), Michael Peralta (Carson City), Tyler Hinkey (Reno) and Cedric Ferguson (Las Vegas).

General admission to attend the Battle in the Gymnasium amateur card is $10 for adults and $5 for 12 years and under. General admission and raffle tickets can be purchased at the Yerington Paiute Tribal Smoke Shop (601 West Bridge Street, Yerington) and through Jeanine Blue Horse at the Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California headquarters (919 Highway 395, Gardnerville).

Sponsorship packages are available, which include ringside sections for sponsors.
