Church organizes Christian concert

George Whorley, pastor at the House of Praise in Gardnerville, has organized a Christian concert he hopes to make a tradition in Carson Valley.

The free concert, held over a weekend June 22 and 23, 6:30-8:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday nights, in Minden Park, will feature music by the Christian band Divine Calling, Missouri guitarist Larry Carter, singer Tyler Sullivan of Citrus Heights, Calif., and master of ceremonies Gary Harding, who hosts KYCC 88.1 FM Christian radio.

"We're looking to have a Christian concert here every year," said Whorley, "so we will have a donations bucket out there for the next concert."

Whorley said the concert will feature "good" Christian music.

"The music will be inspirational and gospel groups," he said.

Whorley sees a need for an annual Christian concert in the Valley.

"I've been here seven years, and there haven't been any major Christian concerts," said Whorley. "The community has been so good to us. I thought this would be a good way to say thank you to Carson Valley."
