The R-C Morning Report

Memorial Day weekend will be a busy one in Carson Valley with lots of things going on. Tonight Hotel California will be performing in Minden California at 6:30 p.m. as the summer concert series kicks off. Tonight's gig is sponsored by the Carson Valley Inn and David Walley's Hot Springs Resort. The People's Powwow is Saturday and Sunday at the Dresslerville Gym and the Elks are serving pancakes on Sunday morning at the Lodge in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

If you have any business in Douglas County with county, state or federal offices, conduct it today because they'll be closed until Tuesday morning. Same is true for The R-C, which is closing at 3:30 p.m. today to celebrate the birth of another Carson Valley Almanac.

Did I mention the Almanac is out? Subscribers got their copies today. We're distributing them with a free copy of The R-C on Wednesday to non-subscribers. If you don't want us delivering to you, call Tony at the office and he'll put you on the list.

If you happen to be traveling over the hill today, watch out on Interstate 80 near the state line where the Highway fire is burning. The freeway is open, but watch out for fire engines in the right westbound lane. Firefighters hope to get a line around the blaze by Sunday. Just be careful out there and come home safe.

It will be partly cloudy today with a high temperature near 81 degrees. The wind will pick up at about noon to 15 mph and gusts to 25 mph. The National Weather Service is saying there's little chance for precipitation, but on Friday some places got sprinkles thanks to a bit of unstable air. Those places were not, as near as I can tell, in Carson Valley.
