Abigail Mia DeArcos

2006-2007

A funeral service will be 10 a.m. May 19, 2007 at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City for Abigail Mia DeArcos, 13 months old, who died at her Gardnerville home May 12, 2007.

Abigail was born April 7, 2006 in Reno to Desi DeArcos and Gloria Mendoza DeArcos.

She is survived by her parents of Gardnerville; her great-grandmother Elvira Rodriguez of Gardnerville; her grandparents Isabelle Ramierez of Carson City and Silverio and Rita Mendoza of Gardnerville as well as her sister and brothers Elizabeth DeArcos, Victor DeArcos, Omar DeArcos and Isaac DeArcos, all of Gardnerville.

Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Burial will take place at Walton's Carson Garden Cemetery following the service.

Grady C. Goodwin

1929-2007

Grady C. Goodwin, 77, a former Douglas County resident, died May 13, 2007 in Sun City, Ariz.

Mr. Goodwin was born July 31, 1929. He spent his career as a business manager and business owner. Upon retirement, he and his wife Norma moved to Carson Valley in 1996 and made this area their home until mid 2003. He was a member and past officer of the MInden/Douglas Elks No. 2670 as well as past president of the International Footprinter's Association #72.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Norma Goodwin of Sun City, Ariz.; his three sons James, Michael and Thomas as well as seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Fund.

John C. Gunn

1938-2007

Services were held May 17 at the Nazarene Church in Filer, Idaho for John C. Gunn, 68, who died May 13, 2007.

Mr. Gunn was born in Charleston, W.V. on Dec. 14, 1938 to Jack and Edna Gunn. When he was 17, he moved with his family to Torrance, Calif., where he began his career in the telecommunication business at General Telephone in Redondo Beach and later in Palos Verdes. Sept. 9, 1968, he moved to Gardnerville to work for Continental Telephone Company in a supervisory position. He met and married Ginny Mortimer April 11, 1969.

They made their home in Gardnerville until July of 1982 when Mr. Gunn accepted the position of General Manager for Filer Mutual Telephone Company, turning it into a thriving Telecom offering its patrons the finest and latest in telecommunication services. He retired from the company in March of 2005. Mr. Gunn touched many lives through his dedication to his craft and talent. He will be remembered as a courageous and faithful man who gained instant respect and gave far more than he ever received. Mr. Gunn was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Gunn was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ginny, sons James and John, daughters Christine and her husband Randy Baker, Sherry and her husband Bill Engebretzen, Melissa Spadaccinni, two sisters Joanne and Judy, 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park" in Filer, Idaho. Graveside services followed the funeral service at the Filer Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association, American Heart Association or the Nazarene Church in Filer. Donations may be given to Mortuary staff for forwarding.

Edith Rose McGowan

1922-2007

Funeral services will be noon, May 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 891 Mahogany Drive, Minden, for Edith Rose McGowan, 84, who died May 14, 2007 in Gardnerville.

She was born Sept. 24, 1922 in Susanville, Calif. to Leon Merton and Georgia Bennett. She worked as a bookkeeper for various federal agencies. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mrs. McGowan was preceded in death by seven brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughter Ginger Miner of Carson City; sisters Mary Bell of San Leandro, Calif., and Ruth West of Ukiah, Calif. She is also survived by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral home in Gardnerville. Burial will take place at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

James E. Reimann

1930-2007

Private family rememberances will take place at a later date for James Edward Reimann, 77, who died March 20, 2007 at his Gardnerville home.

Mr. Reimann was born March 19, 1930 in Buffalo, N.Y. and grew up at Bear Lake Turkey Ranch, Stocton, near Niagara Falls. After his mother, Adele, died at an early age, he attended Stella Niagara Cadet School for some time before joining the Armed Forces in 1949. He served his country as loadmaster on the Flying Boxcar, both in Korea and in Vietnam, flying over the troops, delivering goods and supplies. Upon returning stateside he met and married Margaret Alice Kitchen of Denver, Colo. April 11, 1953. The lived in Marin County, Calif. until 1989 when the retired to Lake Tahoe. There, Mr. Reimann spent his time photographing countless weddings and reunions. For the past 18 years he has been known as "The Fudge Man" and could regularly be seen in his Santa cap around the holidays delivering his delectable treats to friends and family. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and friends and was a dedicated San Francisco Giants fan. He was not a salad eater but had a weakness for a good, juicy bacon double cheeseburger.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Reimann of Gardnerville; three children Linda Kay, Eugene James and Eric Lee. He is also survived by three grandchildren Eli, Samuel and Rachael Lynn as well as his Jack Russell Terrier, Jack.
