The R-C Morning Report

Our coverage of the Lions' Great Manure Sale made the David Letterman Show Monday night. We're not surprised, but certainly are honored to be associated with the event, which has been going on for decades. The line is at www.cbs.com/latenight/lateshow/wahoo/index/php/20070507.phtml. I understand there is a clip floating around out there.

This is pretty much the last week you can use those 39-cent stamps and still get your letters off somewhere. On Monday, first class postage goes up to 41 cents. The new periodicals rate has been delayed until July 15, but when it hits the cost of mailing newspapers and magazines is going to increase significantly. One side effect of the increase is that Western Nevada Community College isn't going to mail us all a fall catalog. There's a stack of them at The R-C if you're looking.

Good luck dodging the road construction both at the Lake and down here. They're installing fire hydrants along Jacks Valley Road and have gotten about three miles so far. Nice to have the hydrants, though. Spruce Street in Gardnerville is being worked on once more. For such a short street, it sure does get a lot of attention. Utility work along Highway 395 is continuing at night and some of the new street lights are starting to go up.

The high temperature will peak today at about 81 degrees and then it start to cool off a little. It will be breezy with wind gusts hitting up to 22 mph. On Thursday the high begins to back off a little and by the weekend it will be cooler and cloudier with highs in the mid-70s.
