A 17-year-old who admitted taking part in an outbreak of church vandalism last summer was ordered Monday to serve 90 days at the Western Nevada Regional Youth Center in Silver Springs.
District Judge Michael Gibbons suspended a commitment to China Spring Youth Camp.
Ryan Schuricht, who turns 18 this month, admitted one count of unlawful use of marijuana, two counts of minor consuming and a probation violation.
Schuricht and three others were arrested last summer after six Carson Valley churches were vandalized with spray paint that depicted "666," upside-down crosses and obscenities.
Judged the least culpable, Schuricht was the only defendant not sentenced to confinement.
His lawyer, Tod Young, said he had consulted with Schuricht's family and the juvenile probation office and it was determined that the youth center would be the best place to treat his defendant.
"We want Ryan to be able to live a sober life," Young said.
Two other juveniles who admitted taking part in the vandalism were sent to Aurora Pines for girls and a state facility in Elko.
The 19-year-old adult defendant was placed on four years probation.
At his disposition last summer, Schuricht was placed on indefinite probation and ordered to complete 96 hours of community service.
According to court records, he has paid his share of the nearly $7,000 restitution.
