Michael Gerald


'Jerry' Chavez


1938-2007


A celebration of life was Thursday at the Genoa Lakes Golf Course for Michael Gerald "Jerry" Chavez, 69, who died April 30, 2007, in Gardnerville.


He was born April 26, 1938, in Sante Fe, N.M., to Roy B. Chavez and Delia Valdez. He served in the U.S. Air Force and received a bachelors degree from Redlands University. He married Patricia Ste. Marie, July 25, 1963, in California. He lived in Saugus, Calif. where he worked for Rocketdyne as a facility manager in Santa Susanna, Calif., before moving to Gardnerville 11 years ago. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping and working out at World's Gym. He belonged to the Sertoma Club and was an employee/member of the Genoa Lakes Golf Club.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edward, sister Pauline and grandson Samuel. He is survived by his wife Patricia Chavez of Gardnerville; daughter and son-in-law Theresa and Michael Brink of Santa Clarita, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Rand Chavez-Whitney of Monroe, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law Jeffery and Kimberly Chavez of Lancaster, Calif.; daughter Daisy Maeling of Gardnerville; sister Pricilla Biller of Cerritos, Calif.; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary. Cremation to take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City. Memorial donations can be made to the Sertoma Club, Carson City/Gardnerville.




Pamela D. Colbert


1958-2007


Pamela D. Colbert, 48, a 14-year resident of Carson City, died April 24, 2007, in Carson City.


Mrs. Colbert was born Nov. 7, 1958, in Denver, Colo., to Garland and Mildread Nolen. She graduated high school and lived in Minot, N.D., before moving to Nevada. She married Clyde D. Colbert, Aug. 24, 1986, in Carson City.


She is survived by her husband Clyde; daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Jason Wyrick, daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Russ Cobb, sister Janet Nolen as well as two grandchildren.


Arrangements are in the care of Capitol City Cremation in Carson City. Cremation took place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City.




Frances Maurine


Harrell


1925-2007


Frances Maurine Harrell, 82, a resident of Gardnerville for 18 years, died April 28, 2007, in Carson City.


Mrs. Harrell was born March 11, 1925, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Joseph J. Voorhees and Cleo Beryl Voorhees. Previously from South Bend, Ind., she worked as a secretary. She married Ralph Harrell in South Bend in 1946.


She was a member of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church and an avid Chicago Cubs fan.


She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Harrell, Feb. 28, 1998; her sister Virginia B. Walker and her brother Joseph J. Voorhees.


She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Larry R. and Alice Harrell of Gold Run, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Kathleen A. and David Hussman of Gardnerville; two grandchildren, Beau A. Valory of Reno and Matthew J. Harrell of Gold Run and her sister Winona J. Schaar of Mountain Home, Ark.


Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City.

Rose Marie


Borda McAllister


1921-2007


A memorial service is 10 a.m. Friday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for Carson Valley native Rose Marie Borda McAllister, 85, who died April 27, 2007.


Mrs. McAllister was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Gardnerville to John Baptiste and Augustine Borda. She was a graduate of Douglas County High School. She married her high school sweetheart, George McAllister and the couple shared 60 years together. Mrs. McAllister worked for 30 years as the secretary for the Soil Conservation Service.


She was proud to be a member of St. Gall Catholic Community. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, spending time with her family and her dachshunds.


She always had a warm smile and a kind word.


Mrs. McAllister was preceded in death by her parents, John Baptiste and Augustine Borda, her husband George McAllister and her brother Ray Borda.


She is survived by her daughter Patricia Schwake and husband Fred; son Mike McAllister and Carla Wetzel; grandchildren, Rick Canatsey and fiancé Vicki Dalton, Robert Canatsey, Christy Canatsey-Malarchuk, Michelle Hanson and husband Steve, Tara Lannom and husband Mike, Michael McAllister and wife Michelle, Ryan Wetzel and wife Katrina, Erin Davidson and husband Jeremy, Bonnie Smith and husband Kelly and Lena Resick; great-grandchildren, Tiana McAllister-Daggs, Josilyn Daggs, Troy Lannom, Brandi Keenan, Brandon Dalton, Dallyn Malarchuk, James and Grace Hanson, Spencer and Cameron Davidson, Anna Wetzel, Austin and Beau Smith, Kasey and Drew Resick and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.


The family asks in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Rose McAllister's name to Alzheimer's Association Northern Nevada Chapter, 705 South Wells Ave. Reno, Nev.




Carl Floyd Spanner


1918-2007


Carl Floyd Spanner, 88, a nine-year resident of Gardnerville, died April 27, 2007, at Merrill Gardens in Gardnerville.


Mr. Spanner was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Greeley, Colo., to Carl Spanner and Maryann Oliver. He married Anna Spanner Dec. 27, 1975, in Carson City. He worked as a carpenter.


Mr. Spanner was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Spanner Aug. 26, 2002, in Carson City.


He is survived by his wife Anna Spanner of Gardnerville; daughter and son-in-law Lynda and Bill Teglia of Gardnerville; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law Bob and Helen Cain of New Mexico; stepdaughter Liz Hirsch of Nebraska; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.


Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.




Virginia Mary


Whalen Wall


1927-2007


Virginia Mary Whalen Wall, 80, died at her home in Carson City April 23, 2007.


Mrs. Wall was born April 9, 1927, in Torrington, Conn., to James and Josephine Gleason Whalen. She was educated at St. Francis Parochial School and Torrington High School, she entered nursing school at Waterbury Hospital in Connecticut. She married Vincent Wall April 19, 1952.


She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent Wall. She is survived by two daughters Colleen Miller of Minden and Kathleen Gaffney of Terre Haute, Ind.; a son Vincent Wall of Burney, Calif.; a sister Elizabeth Jobtanski and a brother Francis Whalen both of Harwinton, Conn. as well as four grandchildren.


Services were April 27 at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.
