Skiing: Wehan at U.S. Nationals

Former Carson Valley resident Bryce Wehan is competing in the U.S. Alpine Skiing Championships this week in Alyeska, Alaska.

Wehan, 18, moved to Jackson Hole, Wyo., this year to continue his pursuit of a spot in the U.S. Developmental ski team and turned in a number of solid finishes during the season.

In January, he placed fifth in an FIS downhill event at Alyeska and took eighth in the giant slalom at Snow King, Wyo., in late February.

He'll compete in the men's national downhill today, the men's Super G Saturday, the men's slalom Sunday and the men's giant slalom Tuesday.

This season, he is ranked 42nd overall in the country male among alpine skiers with 63.18 points on the year.

Olympian Bode Miller leads the pack with -1.47 points, followed by Steven Nyman (0.64) and Marco Sullivan (5.66).
