Douglas swimmers top North Valleys



The Douglas High swimming and diving teams had little trouble with North Valleys in a dual meet at the Carson Valley Swim Center Friday.


The boys' team took a 143-48 win over the Panthers, getting 1-2-3 sweeps in the 50 free and the 100 free.

Marco Hyman led the way for the Tigers, winning the 200 IM and the 200 freestyle and teaming with Paul Von, Blake Maxwell and James Spencer to win the 200 medley relay and with Angel Skelton, Bryant White and Maxwell to win the 200 freestyle relay.


Von led the sweep in the 50 free, followed by Ryan Dykes and Rene Villanueva and Spencer led the sweep in the 100 free, followed by Dykes and Scott Maxwell.


Blake Maxwell won the 500 free, followed by Colby Cain in second. Cain teamed with Von, White and Scott Maxwell to win the 400 free relay.


White took second in the 100 backstroke followed by Andy Pozun in third and Von took second in the 100 breaststroke.

The girls took a 167-112 victory over the Panthers, getting a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 free and the 500 free.


Nathey Von won the 200 free, followed by Sara Sigala and Virginia Evans while Katie O'Neill won the 500 free followed by Paula Sigala and Whitney Simpson.


Dana Pardee won the 50 free followed by Amanda McRae.

McRae won the 100 free, followed by Lisa Gourlay in second.


Haley Von Schottenstein won the 100 fly with Anna Jackson taking third.


Sara Sigala won the 100 backstroke, with Evans taking third and O'Neill won the 100 breaststroke with Cassie Parr taking third.


The 400 free relay team of Simpson, Von Schottenstein, O'Neill and Sara Sigala won with a time of 4:12.81.

Simpson took second in the 200 IM and Paula Sigala took third.


The 200 medley relay team of Lisa VanDenBerg, Evans, O'Neill and Von Schottenstein took second.


The 200 free relay team of Evans, Pardee, Parr and Paula Sigala took third.

In the regional diving competition Saturday, April Epps took second place overall behind McQueen's Jenny Arnold with a score of 158.45.


Spencer took third overall in the boys' competition behind Reno's Austin Iveson and Reed's Kyle Swanson.


Villanueva and Matt Nielson took fifth and sixth respectively for Douglas.
