Sports Today: Lady Tigers blast Hawks

First-year Coleville baseball coach Matt Carter came intothe season with a mixed bag of experience and youth, but the Wolves have already posted two most wins in the young season then the school was able to record all of last year.

The Wolves beat Hawthorne 9-8 Thursday with senior pitcher Eric Stevens going six innings to pick up the win, giving up only three earned runs, and freshman Jason Peters coming on with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to record the save.

Senior Mark Brown went 2-for-3 to lead the Wolves at the plate while senior Eric Stevens, junior Trevor Anderson, junior Sean Sherlock and sophomore Dylan Hudson each collected one hit.

The Wolves scored all nine of their runs through the first two innings and held on from there.

"We still have a long way to go," Carter said. "But we have pretty much established everyone's role on the team and where they fit in.

"Now it is just a matter of fine-tuning them at their positions."

Coleville takes on Whittell High School Tuesday at Lampe Park.
