Mono County deputies conducting a traffic stop Thursday north of Bridgeport discovered one pound of methamphetamine worth $36,000 concealed in a fire extinguisher in the vehicle.

Once the suspect, identified as Roberto Baez, was taken to Mono County Jail, he was overheard talking about drugs in a soda bottle which turned out to be an ounce of cocaine worth $2,100.

The officers who booked him relayed the information to deputies who were unaware of the soda bottle.

Investigator Craig Nelson said the bottle appeared to be full of fluid. The bottle unscrewed from the bottom to reveal a hidden compartment where the deputies found the cocaine.

Baez said he was enroute from Arizona to an undisclosed location in Nevada.
