Mr. DHS Pageant to be grad night fundraiser

The Douglas High School leadership class has found a way to fund the 2008 senior grad night.

By putting its men on display.

The school will host the first Mr. Douglas High School Pageant March 27 in the high school commons.

"A lot of other schools in the area do and have had some success with it," Douglas senior Sami Johnson said. "There's a Mr. Carson, a Mr. Galena, a Mr. Whittell ... We just thought it was time to have a Mr. DHS."

Contestants will be judged on talent, formal wear, interview questions, swimwear, pick-up lines and overall stage presence.

"We're trying to get a broad sample of the student population represented," Douglas senior Johnson said. "We're looking for all different types of guys."

The field is limited to senior boys and the show will feature musical breaks and various talent routines.

"It'll be a full-on show," Douglas senior Alicia Sturgess said. "There will be different acts while the guys are changing. It should be a lot of fun."

Douglas High teachers Randy Green and Steve Gustafson will serve as the masters of ceremonies, but the high school is still looking for "celebrity" judges.

"We're also seeking sponsors," Sturgess said. "Anyone who may be able to outfit the guys with tuxedos or someone who could do flowers for the event. Any help we could get would be much appreciated."

Cost for the event will be $5 per person and $7 at the door. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. March 27.
