Miss Douglas, Genoa gather fire donations

Staff Reports

Miss Douglas County 2007 Christy Swartz is organizing a food and clothing drive at Douglas High School for 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

"As we all know, the Angora fire has destroyed the homes and lives of hundreds of our close neighbors and friends," she said. "I saw a need in the community. Being Miss Douglas County has opened so many doors for me, and it has given me the confidence to start projects like this. I know that Douglas County is such a giving and generous community, and its time for them to show South Lake Tahoe that."

Swartz said she is gathering donations such as bottled water, canned food, and basic clothing such as shoes, pants and jackets.

She said energy drinks for the firefighters would be greatly appreciated.

"What I need the most is volunteers to help take in the donations," she said. "I want to show what our county is made of; love, generosity, and caring people."

Anyone interested in helping out should call Swartz at (775) 450-8818.

Members of the Greater Genoa Business Association are also gathering donations, which may be dropped off at the Genoa Town Hall by Monday.

For more information, call the town or Bill Bowersock at 782-4835.
