All-Sierra Nevada baseball team released



Editor's Note: Every season the Sierra Nevada Media Group selects a postseason honors team that recognizes the top athletes from the newspapers we cover. Athletes eligible are from schools regularly covered by the Nevada Appeal, Tahoe Daily Tribune, The Record-Courier, Lahontan Valley News, North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and Sierra Sun.




Cory Yoder, Dayton - An All-Northern 3A first team pick who held Dayton win the Northern 3A title. In Northern 3A play, Yoder went 7-0 with a 2.39 ERA and struck out 43 in 41 innings. He hasn't lost a game in the Northern 3A the past two seasons. He also hit .531 with one home run, 18 RBI and 19 runs in conference this past season.


Nate Whalin, Douglas - Whalin was second in the league in doubles (7), third in the league in slugging percentage (.776), fifth in walks (13) and third in runs scored (26). He hit eight home runs overall on the year to go with 10 doubles and two triples. He also had a total of 28 RBI. On the mound, he had a record of 5-2 with 37 strikeouts in eight starts. He was a first-team All-Sierra League pick. He will play baseball at Western Nevada Community College.


Cory Eilers, Douglas - A first-team All-Sierra League selection that led the team with 32 RBIs. He also hit eight doubles, four triples and three home runs. He batted .418 in league play and had a .657 slugging percentage.


Jordan Hadlock, Douglas - First-team All-Sierra League, three-year starter at the varsity level. Solid defensive catcher with arguably the best arm in the Northern 4A. He hit four doubles, five triples and six home runs with 24 RBIs from the leadoff position. He also served as the Tigers' closer, recording a 2-0 record, two saves and 19 strikeouts in 11 appearances.


Willie Morgan, Douglas - Morgan was seventh in the league in batting average (.453) and had 25 RBIs on the year with five doubles, two triples and a home run. He was a second-team All-Sierra League selection.


Tony Fagan, Carson - All all-Sierra League first team pick, Fagan hit .450 with 36 hits, nine doubles, 10 homers and 35 RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage. As a pitcher, Fagan struck out 77 in 56.2 innings, posting a 6-2 record with a 2.59 earned run average.


Brooks Greenlee, Carson - An all-league first team pick, Greenlee hit .429 in league with three home runs, 13 RBI and a .653 slugging percentage.


Jacob Anderson, Galena - An all-league first team pick, Anderson was a key two-way player for the Grizzlies who helped them to an NIAA 4A runner-up finish. He was one of the team's top three pitchers along with Eric Maupin and Tony Thompson.


J.D. Peters, Galena - He was the High Desert League Player of the Year. He led the league in most offensive categories. Overall he hit .549 with 73 hits, 24 doubles, 1 triple, 12 home runs and 41 RBI. An outstanding student-athlete, Peters will attend Vanderbilt.


Eric Maupin, Galena - He was the High Desert Pitcher of the Year and another two-way player. He was a 48th round draft choice of the Seattle Mariners and is expected to sign with a major Division I program soon. He was also one of Northern Nevada's top 10 student athletes.


Tony Thompson, Galena - Another talented two-way player who made the all-league first team. Along with Maupin and Anderson, was one of the team's top three pitchers. He will play baseball at Kansas.


Stephen Yarrow, South Tahoe - He led the Sierra League in hitting with a .520 average. He led the league in walks with 19 and had four homers and 18 RBI in league. He will play at San Francisco. An all-league first team choice.


Otto Trebetich, South Tahoe - He led the league in hits with 32 and hit .485, third best in the league. A first-team all-league choice.


Lyle Gardner, Fallon - An all-High Desert League first team choice, Gardner led the league in innings pitched at 36 while posting a 4-2 record. He was 7-2 overall. He was fourth in the league in strikeouts.


Allan Albisu, Fallon - An all-High Desert League first team pick, he will attend WNCC in the fall to play baseball. He hit 13 home runs (six in league) and had 27 RBI.


Honorable mention: Carter Amaral, Whittell; David Leid, Matt Rutledge, Paul Cagle, Carson; Phil Mannelly, Ryan Pruitt, Tyler May, Douglas; Jake Hess, Basim Azzam, Pete Lazzari, Galena.
