Woman receives prison term for child endangerment

A Minden woman was sentenced to up to five years in Nevada State Prison for a second offense of child endangerment.

Anne Louise Murphey, 45, was sentenced to prison in connection with a June 28, 2005, arrest for driving her daughter to the baby-sitter while intoxicated.

According to court records, Murphey dropped her daughter off and then passed out on the baby-sitter's couch. Murphey had a .257 blood alcohol content, according to the report and was sent to prison to complete her sentence for felony driving under the influence.

Murphey was still in prison in November 2005 when she was ordered to attend Western Nevada Regional Drug Court upon her release from prison in March 2006.

Murphey said she attended drug court until September 2006, when she said she called the court and told them she had a medical emergency and would no longer be able to attend.

"I got sick and I got scared," she told District Judge Michael Gibbons on Monday. "I was almost out when all this happened. I signed the agreement fully intending to complete the program."

Murphey told Gibbons that one of the witnesses against her lied about seeing her driving drunk. Gibbons said there didn't appear to be a basis to withdraw her guilty plea and Murphey agreed to go forward with sentencing.
