Today is the last day for Carson Valley's elementary schools. Students will be in for a half day and then free for the summer. The Valley's high and middle schools let out after a half day on Friday. Graduation ceremonies will be held at both Douglas and Whittell high schools Friday night.

Summer may well be over before a pretrial for Karen Bodden, accused of killing her husband, sees the inside of a courtroom. On Wednesday, her attorney, James Wilson Jr., told Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl that it would be the end of August before investigatory work was complete in the case. EnEarl set an Aug. 1 hearing date in the case and told Wilson that he would set a date for a preliminary hearing then. Bodden has been in custody in Douglas County jail since Sept. 11, 2006, the day after Robiin Bodden's body was found in the desert above Johnson Lane.

Rumors of demolition abound in Carson Valley these days. Word is that the old antique outlet is due for destruction sometime in the near future as is the old house on the lot across from Raley's. Nothing official on what's going on the lot at the corner of Highway 395 and Eddy Street, but a Chili's is rumored to be going in across from the Raley's.

The National Weather Service is issuing a fire weather watch starting Friday afternoon. A weak low pressure system will bring gusty winds of up to 30 mph with the humidity dropping below 15 percent. Today's weather is predicted to be sunny and warm with the high hitting 91 today and Friday. After the low passes the highs will drop into the upper 80s, bottoming out at 86 on Monday.
