• The senior center has been a home away from home to many for the past 30 years. The center will celebrate with a birthday bash on Saturday, starting with an 8:30 a.m. walk-a-thon, games and activities at 11 a.m., a barbecue with music by Don and Nadine at 12:30 p.m., a recognition ceremony for its originators at 2 p.m. and a dance to Don and Nadine's music from 7-10 p.m. Page B1

• Thursday is Flag Day and the Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge in the Gardnerville Ranchos has a special celebration planned to honor the different flags that have flown throughout our country's history. The public is invited. Page B2
