Douglas County has prohibited the possession of any liquid container made wholly or partially of glass or metal on any public street or in any open area or area assessable to the public within the unincorporated town of Gardnerville.  This ordinance is in effect from 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before Carson Valley Days till 5:00 a.m. the following Saturday.

Patrons of a restaurant may possess such liquid containers within the restaurant premises until 9:00 p.m. on the Friday before Carson Valley Days.

Violations of this ordinance constitute an infraction and are punishable by a fine not to exceed $1,000.00.  The sheriff's department may confiscate any container in violation of this ordinance.  The purpose of the ordinance is to limit the possibility of these items to be used as projectiles resulting in property damage and or personal injury.

On Saturday, June 9th, U.S. Highway 395 will be closed for several hours beginning at 8:00 a.m. between Buckeye Road and Waterloo Lane to accommodate the Carson Valley Days parade.  North and southbound highway traffic will be diverted around the parade route via Orchard Road.  Motorist finding themselves on the west side of U.S. Highway 395 within the road closure area are asked to use State Route 756 to Waterloo Lane to State Route 88 to access north bound U.S. 395.  Motorist wishing to travel south on U.S. Highway 395 should travel south on State Route 756 to Dresslerville Road, then east to Riverview Drive to U.S. Highway 395.  The areas of Douglas Avenue and County Roads will be temporarily closed to through traffic.  Heavy congestion and long delays are anticipated in these areas during the closure of the highway.

The sheriff's office wishes everyone a safe and happy Carson Valley Day celebration.  We remind those who shall consume alcoholic beverages, please don't drink and drive.
