Western entertainer headlines FFA's Sagebrush Serenade

The Western Music Association's Entertainer of the Year, Dave Stamey, will be headlining Smith Valley FFA Alumni Association's Sagebrush Serenade, Saturday at Dressler Park on Highway 208 in Wellington. Gates will be open from noon until 9 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults 18 and older; $10 for ages 6-17; free for ages five and younger.

Daytime events will include buggy rides, Western arts and crafts booths, silent and live auctions, special activities for the kids, and simple fare food and drink. The evening program hosted by local poet and humorist, Ken Gardner, will begin at 6 p.m. and include local performers, Dusty and Donna Hustace, Sallie Knowles Joseph, Jon and Betsy Elliot and Jeff Hustace.

Featured recording artist, Stamey, will take the stage at 7 p.m. Called "the Charley Russell of Western Music," by Cowboys and Indians Magazine, Stamey has been bucked off and stomped by many horses. He has been stepped on by mules and dragged around branding pens by cattle of many sizes. He's ridden in the rain, in the snow, in the rain some more, in pretty nasty heat, and in feedlot pens where the air was thick and decidedly fragrant.

He's an entertainer now, and said he prefers it that way.

Stamey has been voted Entertainer of the Year, Male Performer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year by the Western Music Association and Male Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists.

Mark your calendar for the Smith Valley FFA Alumni Association's Sagebrush Serenade. All proceeds will go to the Smith Valley FFA Chapter and special sponsorships for this inaugural event are encouraged.
