Fiona's open inside Inn

Fiona's Bar and Grill has moved inside the Carson Valley Inn and takes the place of Michael's restaurant and PJ's Pub not only in the space it occupies but in accommodating people who enjoy gourmet food to express lunches to appetizers at the bar.

"We can't be all things to all people but we are trying to accommodate more people," said Bill Henderson, Carson Valley Inn director of sales and marketing. "We're trying to provide food and services that most people want."

Fiona's has new menus, hours and services with an express lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. The main restaurant, upper dining area and bar area offer comfortable seating for a variety of party sizes.

Lunch at Fiona's may be express or leisurely with one price for the lunch bar of salads, soups of the day, daily pizza, pasta, panini sandwich and carved hofbrau-style sandwiches.

Fiona's dinner includes steaks, chops, ribs, fowl, fresh fish, seafood, pasta and vegetarian dishes. On the menu are grilled monster pork chops, macadamia halibut, top sirloin baseball cut steak, chicken margarita and smoked buffalo prime rib. There are more than 150 wines available.

Fiona's "Best in Carson Valley" Sunday brunch features corned beef hash, frittatas, omelets, San Francisco crab melt, huevos rancheros, lamb chops and eggs and a trip to the pastry, fruit and salad bar.

The new stone top bar is open to the restaurant area and casino with two large-screen plasma TVs, 18 bar seats and video poker machines. Fiona's customers are now able to earn INN Club points while they play video poker.

Customers may order appetizers or meals off the menu to eat at the bar. Appetizers are served at the bar from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There are six beers on tap and dozens of wines by the glass.

Jeff Wellman, bartender at CVI for 11 years said he was allowed his say on how the bar was set up.

"It's so much better. With it being new and more open, it's beautiful and friendly," Wellman said. "You can get chicken wings to escargot and everything in-between."
