June donations fill food closet shelves

The Carson Valley Food Closet wishes to thank all those who donated during the month of June. It was a busy month for the food closet. The annual Wacky Wiver Race was held and generated lots of fun and funds.


Also, thanks to everyone who supported the Closet Crafters Quilt Raffle and Garage Sale.


The following contributions were received, in pounds: Christ Presbyterian Church (61), Coventry Cross Episcopal Church (23), St. Gall Catholic Church (292), Carson Valley United Methodist Church (103), Unity Church (54), Mike Smith (52), Kiwanis, Claudia Fennel, Dorothy, Rite Aid (12), Russell's Mercantile (87), Rene Warrig (13) and Dorothy Heacock (2).


Regular grocery contributors: Scolari's, Raley's, Smith's, Starbucks, Trader Joe's, Costco and the Pony Espresso.


Cash donations received: Burl and Rosemarie Middendorf, Shirlee Jacobs, PiƱon Hills Elementary School, Youth Walk/St. Gall, Merrill Construction, Closet Crafters and anonymous (2).


For the Wacky Wiver Race duck sales: Stewart Title, Carson Valley United Methodist Church, Scolari's, ReMax, Candles & Crafts, Taylor-York Salon, Gardnerville Elementary School, MEFIYI Foundation, Starbucks and Ace Hardware.


Prizes for the race were donated by: Two Guys From Italy Restaurant, Rite Aid, Bouquet & Bouquet, Carson Valley Golf Course, Silver Strike Lanes, Ironwood Stadium Cinema 8 and Disney Studios.


The Carson Valley Food Closet is located at 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, and is open from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday.


Donations can be dropped off during business hours.


Currently we are in need of toiletries, shampoo, baby diapers and nonrecalled dry dog food.
